Kayaking is the most enjoyable and sustainable way to see the wetlands, allowing an intimate experience with the wildlife without impacting the natural ecology. Showcasing one of South Australia’s best-kept secrets just over 200 km north of Adelaide is the internationally recognised Banrock Station Wetlands.
Our wetlands are a vital part of the environment, acting as living water filters, nurseries of the valley. Our wetlands play a vital role in carbon capture, helping reduce the impacts of climate change. Combined, the lagoons cover over 250 hectares and the total site over 1,000 hectares, including mallee woodland.
The best way to explore these waterways is by kayak.
We have partnered with Brenton Carle from Canoe the Coorong, a true Eco tourism operation. Brenton is a Flinders University Eco Tourism graduate, with years of experience in the industry and they pride themselves on their conservation efforts to keep the environment they work in pristine for future generations to be able to enjoy these unique and precious resources.
They are a Tourism Australia Accredited Business, offering an authentic experience of nature based eco-friendly kayak tours.
They offer tours for people of all ages and skill levels. Tours cruise along at a pace that allows guests to take in the natural wonders and wildlife that the Wetlands has to offer.

Please Note: Every few years the wetlands is placed into a dry phase for approximately 6 months as part of a wetting and drying regime that compliments the natural wetting and drying cycles of the wetlands. This allows us to manage the ecosystem and support positive flora and fauna development, particularly among a range of endangered species. Ecological monitoring and the evaluation of environmental assets are regularly completed in order to retain our Ramsar accreditation.
The next phase of drying is due to commence in Mid 2025.
Any questions please contact us at the wine and wetlands centre.
